Merlot is one of our most popular varietals and we work extra hard to achieve the wine's quintessential characteristics. Keeping in mind the varietals' early ripening nature, I work closely with the growers to monitor the timing of the harvest and ensure the wine's up-front, full-flavored plumy character. In addition, I closely monitor the maceration process to make sure the grapes stay cold to extract deep color, rich fruit flavors and soft tannins.
Fat bastard Merlot
FAT bastard Merlot is sourced from select vineyards throughout the Languedoc-Roussillon. The area is known for its stony soil, which naturally limits yields and lends a fresh, fruit-forward character and mature tannins to the final wine.
Deep, dark red in color with elegant notes of plum and black cherry followed by subtle nuances of caraway and black pepper. On the palate, it is fresh, full and juicy with solid mid palate weight and an expansive, round finish.
This Merlot truly shines when enjoyed with grilled steaks, sausages, and burgers with Havarti cheese. Ideal for your next barbeque!
